Robyn’s take · Practical advice
Start with the home and the ownership costs
Compare specific homes at your budget. Put strata fees, insurance, taxes and near-term maintenance next to the mortgage. An older detached home and a newer townhouse can involve very different responsibilities.
Look at what may change nearby
Willoughby’s community planning is being updated. Check the municipal plans and applications around a property before assuming an open parcel will remain open. In either area, verify the context around the actual address.
Use your routine as the test
Walnut Grove has its community centre and a connection across the Golden Ears Bridge. In Willoughby, compare access to the particular amenities you use. Drive the commute, walk the school route and visit at the times you would normally be there.
Give each area a fair visit
Tour both on an ordinary weekday. Score commute, walkability, home condition, outdoor space and total cost using the same priorities. The better fit should emerge from your life, not a neighbourhood stereotype.
